Cheers To The New Year!

I have had a whirlwind of a weekend! My in laws kept my two sons for the week after Christmas and we met them halfway in Des Moines to pick them up. The past week was a much needed kid free week after the holiday for my husband and I. I appreciate my in laws so much and all they do for us! We spent the night in Iowa and had a fun filled evening swimming. Now we are headed back to Kansas City to ring in the new year with our new fun friends at a party they are throwing. I hope everyone has a fantastic New Years and cheers to 2018!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from the Miller Family! We hope everyone has a good holiday surrounded by your family and loved ones. Enjoy!

Yum!

My favorite part of Christmas since I was a little girl has always been making cookies. My dad would always make cookies with my brother, sister and I every year. We would make like 6 different kinds of cookies for us to eat and also to distribute to our neighbors and friends. Food has always been my Dad’s love language and maybe it has rubbed off on me also. I still to this day love to bake cookies and have started the tradition with my boys. So if you are ever near me around this time of the year be prepared to be hoarded with cookies.

Warm Wishes

It’s the week leading up to Christmas and it’s a busy week for the Miller’s. We have school parties, packing, going out of town, family parties and the grand finale Christmas. Except my husband ended up getting the flu. I have a feeling this year is going to be rough for sickness. Fingers crossed I’m not next! So I’m wishing everyone warm wishes and healthy vibes for this week.

Joy

Around this time of the year, I have always found it hard to really live in the moment of the holiday season. Before having my youngest son, I had worked in retail for 15 years. I loved where I worked, but every holiday season was very overwhelming. If you have ever dabbled in working in the field, it tends to drain the life out of you and you just go through the motions of each day so you get home to your life away from the fake holiday spirit. I have currently been out of retail for 3 years and I have found that I enjoy the holiday season much more when I don’t have to get involved with the craziness. I have now found a new joy in creating artwork for myself and for others to enjoy. I can now breathe and soak in all the magical moments of the season.

Vintage Red Truck

I’ve started to share my sketchbook art to my friends and family via facebook and instagram. It’s been awesome to hear the outpouring support from everyone. It’s felt great to get into the creative groove again. On one of my previous posts, my good friend Danae requested me to do a sketch of a vintage red truck. So today’s sketch is dedicated to my friend Danae. This one’s for you! Sketch made with Prismacolor markers and Paper-mate ink joy pen. Until next time!

Happy Turkey Day

My 2nd favorite eating day has arrived! Nothing beats the smells of right out of the oven turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls and pumpkin pie. Except we don’t have pie at our gatherings because I hate pie crust. I know I’m weird, so I usually make a pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting instead. I love the sense of family and thankfulness this holiday brings each year. Remember gobble until you wobble! Happy Thanksgiving!

Cold

It is so freaking cold outside! I don’t like the cold, I don’t like being cold….end of story. Most of my sketches start from ideas that I have while waiting in the car pick up line to get my oldest son from kindergarten. So you can imagine the only thing on my mind today is being cold. Today I decided to stick to black and white using my Paper-mate ink joy pen! Stay warm out there!

Hello Fall

My favorite season is finally here, so it’s only fitting that I do sketch about it. I love the this time of year for the falling leaves, the crisp smell in the air, cooler weather and of course anything apple or pumpkin! I have been loving this sketchbook that my husband bought me a couple of years ago that I finally brushed the dust off of. It’s the perfect size to travel with me everywhere. I have also been experimenting more with my Prismacolor markers and my favorite go to Paper-mate Ink Joy pen. I am loving the combination together.
